Chinese Medicine and Acne

Traditional Chinese medicine views acne as an external manifestation of an internal imbalance.

Excess heat and toxins are thought to produce acne and traditional therapy involves foods that cool the blood, decrease toxins and improve digestion.

Some examples of warming foods are deep-fried foods, red meat, sugar, and chocolate. Cooling foods include squash, cucumbers, celery, carrots, lettuce, potatoes, cabbage, alfalfa sprouts, pears, cherries, papaya, raspberries, and watermelon.

This dietary approach to acne treatment will also improve liver and intestinal function to eliminate toxins and help clear skin.
